She’s home

Noel was discharged from the hospital late yesterday afternoon and got to sleep in her own bed last night. Her sister Sarah from Denver came in yesterday and will be staying with us through Christmas, which is a tremendous help. We’re now trying to determine what she can eat on the low fiber, low residue diet she’s on for the next four to six weeks. Almost everything she likes (e.g., fresh vegetables) is NOT on it.

  4. Noel, so good to hear you are home, sleepingi in your own bed, eating your own low fiber. Best of all is to have your sister there too. How comforting for both you and Clark. We’ve been watching the blog and are so grateful for the updates that Clark is giving. Keep up the good fight and give it a kick or to from me!

    Hip, Hip, Yeah Team-
I bet this is the best day in a week or so. As for the diet-think inside the box(medical irony). BUT…you could, when you are able to think about food at all, peel and core your favorite fruits and veggies(except like broccoli and cauliflower, brussel sprouts-stuff like that are not cool even when cooked) and add cinnamon, allspice for the fruits and veg. or chicken stock for the veggies, give it a light pulse on the food processor. Limit to 2cups a day and voila-tasty whole food. The next best thing to being there.
Also, another idea that cousin Bob did and does for me-smoothie made with , some of your cooked fruit refrigerated, whey protein powder, nonpulp OJ, probiotic yogurt(Greek is good) Yumm! Hey and all the excellently prepared fresh fish Clark or your sissies can fix ya’. I know they say stay away from heavy dairy, but colby cheese or some other mild cheese in a recipe is okay. Also, if they haven’t already said so, and when you can tolerate it, don’t forget calcium, Vit C. and foic acid supplements. You’ll need em’ on a true low residue.
I’m thinking about you, kid. I talked to Jennie and she’ll be sending you suggestions soon.
    I love you-Peg

I just read over what I wrote, Don’t forget to cook the fruits or veggies. I’m afraid fresh is off the menu for a while. You’ll be surprised when you get your appetite back the foods and recipes that are allowed and yummy.

I have a great baked custard recipe – a bit bland, but nourishing. Pureed soups perhaps?
Alwasy great to get out of the hospital, to take a shower and wash your hair!
Thanks for all the posts Clark, you have done a great job.

So glad you are home again, Ann. So, so much better than the hospital, which is no place to be if you are trying to heal!! 🙂 Too bad about the chardonnay, but thank goodness for the champagne.

I spent the day in NYC with Jane and Peter Hayman yesterday. You were on our minds. We send you our collective love and good wishes.

Big hugs to all of you, and to Sarah, too, even though I’ve never met her. I’m sure she is as special as you are.

Clark, I laughed about the “father” comment, recalling a time my parents, sister and I were on a boat, I think. Responding to a question about my sister, a crew member asked “And the boy?,” referring to my father. That really sent my mother over the edge!

  19. Clark, how about an update? We’re all interested in knowing how it has gone since Noel got home.

Oh, and please post a photo of yourself in the butler get up. 😉

  20. Annie/Noel,

Only good things…Take that positive flair of yours and make life as good as it gets .

Speaking of vegetables, can still picture you salting… and peppering tomatoes to make them look so delicious that I wanted some even though I hated tomatoes ! You have that kind of power.

    Big hugs,
    Jan
